This piece came from a little bit of noodling I did on the piano when I was supposed to be learning Hans Zimmer’s “He’s A Pirate” from Pirates Of The Caribbean. I wrote it down, put it somewhere safe and never thought much more about it until a couple of weeks ago.
I found the sheet music I’d written, played it, and suddenly knew what to do with it. I guess I was inspired that, like Cap’n Jack Sparrow, I wondered where the rum had gone. With a parched throat and a yearning for the flavour of The Caribbean, I wrote an arrangement that took that inspiration and turned it into something that reflected my longing for a drop of rum. Alas the rum is still gone, but the music flows freely.
